Oldie but Goodie
In 1960s California, a teenage girl attempts a dangerous maneuver after challenging a skateboarding champion.
Hello, and thank you for stopping by! I hope that everyone is doing well as August winds down. There are many things I love about summer, but the relentless Southern heat isn’t one of them. While crisp weather is still a distant reality for those of us in hotter areas, I’m excited for the weather to dip below 95-100 degrees F!
Today’s story is one of the first that I ever published on Substack, back when I had 5 subscribers, all of whom were either married to me or biologically related to me (and yes, I was the one who added their emails to subscribe them). In honor of the last weeks of summer, I wanted to bring this story back out and share it with those of you who have graciously subscribed over the past months!

Nine Patch Technical
I originally published this piece when I first started writing on Substack in October 2023. I wanted to give this little historical flash fiction another go-round, since I’ve had many lovely new subscribers arrive since its initial publication!
