Oh, this was beautiful. Scary and terrifying, made me think of Brave New World, but better really, and...oh man.

Ooh. Reminded me a smidge of Lois McMaster Bujold’s Vorkosigan series (the embryonic vat part).

I haven’t read that! I’ll have to check it out!

I actually now want to go reread the series but … not sure if I have time for that!

Nothing like a little road trip into the 5th dimension! 🙃 This is a great addition to our little TZ experiment, Bridget—I really enjoyed it. Nice pacing, good tension, and the paradox of no kids allowed but these incubated adults requiring "idyllic childhood" neurological profiling is really clever. Frames things in a very disturbing way. Love it.

And this...

"Because I got pregnant."

😂 I laughed out loud.

But…” She shrugged. “Human error is one of life’s only certainties.”

LOVED that! Our stories have some overlap there :) This was a really fun and anxiety-riddled road trip with your characters through the desert. Nicely done!

Thank you so much! I’m (very slowly) working my way through all the stories, and I’m excited to get to yours!

Chilling. Hopefully I can fix my faulty neurological overlay.

Bridget, you’ve done it again! This was disturbing. It was great. What a creepy story that also raises all kinds of questions about ethics and human nature. So good.

Skipping the wonders of childhood entirely and being born as "good little worker bees" .... *shudder*

Awesome story.

Fantastic! To wake in an unfamiliar world, to not know how to navigate it, is terrifying. More so than being a denizen of that world and having to find your way? That’s the question…

Oh my goodness. I thought "OK, New Mexico, maybe aliens or something." but I didn't see this coming. You held my interest throughout! I felt their frustration at not being told what year it actually was. I saw an episode of Love Death + Robots where children weren't allowed. This was nowhere near as harrowing, but it is still a theme that makes me gasp. Thanks for writing this, I really enjoyed it.

Thank you so much, Hanna! New Mexico always makes my mind go to aliens as well, but this story surprised me by refusing to be set anywhere else!
