I really enjoyed this story—beautiful writing (and I'm glad your mum was okay!)

Love this line: “The sudden whisper of wood and snow – the door opens.”

I saw the title of this story, and my mind immediately went to the original story. Of course, living in Alaska its hard not to be reminded of it, since the yearly Iditarod sled dog race commemorates that run. And it is not a journey for the faint of heart. I've spoken to racers and learned of the hardships they face, and more than one has said they have found themselves on that run.

Balto! That's exactly where my mind goes when I see sled dogs anyway. I'll have to look into Togo.

Cutting words down always feels unfair somehow, but when it works, it really works. I think this came out well.

I love that Balto movie. The kind of story and animation I can get behind.

Well done. One of the best descriptions of hiding under a bed I've ever read. Describes in very few words the hider, the fear, even somewhat, the bed itself. I had to tarry over it to get the picture.

Yes, I know the story of Balto, from the animated movie and then looking up some info. Vaguely remember something about Togo, but would be interested in a link for more info.
